The Ladder Technique

I will NOT climb a ladder.

I will NOT climb a ladder.

In a 1948 workshop/lecture, Neville Goddard taught his students a technique to prove that we do create our own reality. This one gave me the CHILLS when I first heard about it, halfway through the lecture recording I couldn’t wait to try it out.

How To Do the Ladder Technique

  • For the next 3 consecutive nights, once you are in bed you will visualize yourself with as much detail as you can muster- climbing a ladder. Picture the way your hands would be positioned. Feel the ladder on your hands. Imagine yourself climbing up and down until you fall asleep.

  • During the day you will place the message I WILL NOT CLIMB A LADDER! around your house (even if it scares your housemates and concerns your partner, LOL) On your mirror, on the fridge, on the door. You can make that be your phone screen and lock screen for 3 days as well.

  • Each time you read that note, focus on proving that you in face will not climb a ladder.

  • After three days completely let it go. Stop doing the exercise at night, recycle the papers, change your phone screen.

  • Wait…..some people it took a matter of days or weeks but the majority of the class unexpectedly climbed a ladder.

I want to stop and note that if you are incapable of climbing you can choose something that makes more sense to you- but not something that is typical of your day to day. If you’re a house painter obviously ladders would be too easy, right? You be the judge.

PRO TIP:

Everyone I have encouraged to try this has had it happened. I had a friend calling me and she was laughing too hard to form sentences. She was at her aunt’s house and she asked her if she could get something out of her attic and the door came out of the ceiling and had a ladder on it. This friend was a hardcore skeptic, but will often amuse her “free spirited” friend and be a guinea pig.

Why would we do this exercise? Because when you think about it- how often do you obsess over an outcome you don’t want- only to have it show up through repetitive thoughts, focus, and feeling? How many “ladders” that you didn’t want to climb manifest for you? I can think of so many for myself!

How about for 3 days after your experiment you did this same exercise but the ladder will be replaced with something you do want to happen? Visualize at night with as much focus as you can muster, write affirmations and stick them everywhere- either positive or saying it won’t happen….record various experiments and see what transpires. If you feel inclined, I would love to hear any feedback you have trying this experiment!

These exercises can unlock the doorway to your desires. It is a perfect demonstration of how powerful we are, and how we are always creating and paving our future based on the quality of our thoughts, the strength of our emotions, and our repetition of both of these things.

Love & Abundant Blessings,

Katie
